Amiot Metayer Biography

Amiot supported the military regime from 1991 to 1994 together with his gang. He also supported President Aristide during his second term, until July 2002 when he was jailed for arson. His stay in the Gonaives prison was short lived, for mass protests emerged following his condemnation. His gang broke him out in August 2002. He depicted some resistance to the government of the day, before switching sides and alleging his loyalty to the president.
Amiot Metayer was found murdered in Gonaives on September 22, 2003, having been shot from a close range. Three bullets went into his fragile body. Each eye took a bullet while the third traversed through the most vital organ in the body - the heart. Perhaps the two bullets on the head got to his brain, but it is quite clear that the shot through the heart was lethal.
His murder sparked a series of protests and demonstrations, with his brother, Metayer taking over his responsibilities as the head of the Cannibal Army. Following the ousting of President Aristide in 2004, a new government was put in place. Its prime minister, Gerard Latortue paid tribute to the fallen hero by observing a minute of silence.
