This is a form of art which dominates Cap-Haitien in the northern seacoast of Haiti. The pioneer of the type of art is Philome Obin a Haitian art legend.

Cap-Haitien form of art is characterized by linear elements and the artistic use of paints and brushtokes.

The unique art is based on the subject of the Haitian way of life, the people, the Haitian culture and the country's heritage.

The artworks of Haiti are globally recognized. The revolution began in 1944 after the established of Centre D' art Haitian in Port au Prince by the legend Dewitt peters an American teacher. The industry has since developed beyond imagination to become the best in primitive art in the world.

Haiti has developed to become the home of primitive art. The art history dates back to 1940's when the Centre D'art was established by Dewitt peters in Port-Au-Prince.

The art revolution has seen the establishment of other several schools of art in Haiti. School of Cap-Haitian was founded by Philome Obin, Prefete Duffaut created the School of Jacmel, Foyer Des Arts Plastiques was established by Lucien Price and Cedor.

Another school of art is the Artibonite School linked to Saincilus Ismael who is the founder and considered as the father of a style of painting called Artibonite. Saincilus Ismael has contributed much to the evolution of art in Haiti.

Trina McGee, birthdate of September 6, 1969, born in the Bronx, is an American actor, known mainly for her work on ABC's "Boy Meets World". She is of mixed-parentage, her father a photographer and revolutionary from Haiti, her mother a classical pianist. Trina never knew her father growing up because he was on the run from Papa Doc Duvalier's regime, having rebuked it in a series of political screeds. Growing up, Trina pursued songwriting, acting, and an interest in politics, at the acclaimed Manhattan Country School, a legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King's now legendary "I Have a Dream" speech.

Trina McGee left Howard University, where she was a political science major and decided to enter the music business instead. A song she wrote hit #1 on the local charts in Minneapolis, and from there on events led her in the direction of an acting career, in which she worked with well-known actors Marisa Tomei, Gina Gershon, and Jane Alexander. Music producer Quincy Jones offered her an opportunity to work in TV, but the project never panned out. However, Quincy did mentor her into becoming a polished performer.

After two years when relations with France were restored, Michel Martelly, President accompanied by Laurent Lamothe, Prime Minister, Didier Lebret, France Ambassador and Jean Mario Dupuy, Minister of Culture, all got together last Friday to welcome the Serment des Ancêtres painting

Symbolism of the Painting

They were welcomed to the table on which lay 'Serment des Ancetres' at the airport Toussaint Louverture's diplomatic lounge. The 'Serment des Ancetres' is the painting work of Guillaume Guillon-Lethiere (1760 -1830) painter in the year 1822.

The painting symbolizes the historical meeting between Lieutenant Toussaint Louverture, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Black General, Alexandre Petion and Saint Domingue, the head of mullattoes. In November 1802, the Lieutenant Toussaint Louverture sealed an alliance to get the French troops ousted.

Becoming Haiti's first recognized painter was undoubtedly no small feat to Petion Savain. Born in February of 1906, he didn't start seriously painting until 1927, having spent his life and time before teaching tin smithing, cabinet making and wrought iron at the same vocational school. He'd also had an interest in photography and reportedly dabbled in painting, having studied some drawing at school.

It was a brush with American painter, William Edouard Scott, in Haiti in 1930 to paint, that sparked Savain's lasting interest in the field he would be most remembered for. It is said he then taught himself to paint and created a style which would be copied by many later admirers. A Savain painting, recognizable by its distinct purples and pinks, or by the semi-circular or triangular aspects of crouched or sitting figures, is an uncommon luxury to own.

This is one of the best achievements of the Centre D'Art. Under the direction of DeWitt Peters and Selden Rodman, artists such as Philome Obin, Castera Bazile, Rigaud Benoit, Gabriel Leveque, Wilson Bigaud, Jasmin Joseph and Prefete Dufaud were all involved in this project to paint the Holy Trinity Cathedral Murals.

Located in downtown Port-au-Prince in Haiti, the Holy Trinity Cathedral was known for its interior murals painted by some of the most famous Haitian artists. The paintings inside the Cathedral depicted biblical stories only with black or African actors

Unfortunately, the Holy Trinity Cathedral was heavily damaged in the 2010 Haiti earthquake. Holy Trinity Cathedral is located in Port-au-Prince, at the corner of Rue Pavee and Avenue Mgr. Guilloux

One company that wants to make a difference in Haiti is Macy's.

The American corporation has developed the "Heart of Haiti" Art project in an effort to support the Haitian artists affected by the Haiti earthquake of 2010 to become self sufficient.

What a gesture from a big corporation.

My experiences and all I have so far heard about big corporations is totally contrary to what Macy's is currently doing in Haiti.

Haven't you heard that bid corporations have no heart; that they only care about the bottom line.
