City of Marigot & the European Union Partnership

The project has been designed to improve the capacity of the local authority in such a way that it can offer more efficient services to the inhabitants, the level of public services can be improved and different stakeholders involved in the community services can be engaged in the spirit of a participatory management through dialogue. It has aimed to implement five micro projects such as: (a) support for activities related to the breeding of fish, goat and other livestock; (b) rehabilitation of rural roads; (c) protection watersheds; (d) construction of a vocational training center and (e) marketing of agricultural products.
The project will be completed within a target period of 24 months and will benefit over 60,000 present residents. Further, it will strengthen the local governance through a process of decentralization. The fund provided by the European Union has been sanctioned from the "11th European Fund Development Fund (EDF)" to some of the priority areas as perceived by Haiti and the European Union.
Javier Nino Perez, the Ambassador of the European Union in Haiti, has stated during launching ceremony, the city of Marigot has significant economic and tourism potentialities. He is optimistic that the project will strengthen the capacity of local authorities. It is essential because local authorities are the key players in local development.
