Marie-Andree Raymond Jeudy, AKA Mantoute, is dead

Legendary actor, popularly known as the character, Mantoute, died at her home in Port-au-Prince on Friday, January 18, 2013. Marie-Andrée Raymond Jeudy's death was from unknown causes, and her passing has caused grief in the government of Haiti (GOH).


First to learn of Marie-Andree Raymond Jeudy's death was Laurent Lamothe, Haiti's Prime Minister. He reacted with sadness, immediately sending his heartfelt sympathies to her immediate and extended family and the artistic community of Haiti.

Next to hear was Haiti President, Michel Martelly, and First Lady, Sophia. Grief-stricken, the president and his wife sent official condolences to the bereaved, expressing the GOH's appreciation of Jeudy's art and service to her community.

Back in October of 2012, the GOH selected and inducted Marie-Andree Raymond Jeudy to the office of Chief Deputy Agent at Delmas Town Hall. She served in this capacity for a brief three months. Jeudy also served the GOH in the position of official weather announcer for the National Weather Service Bulletins since 1987.

But she has been most beloved as the character, Mantoute, on the hit television series, "Languichatte". In October, The Motion Picture Association of Haiti (MPAH) presented her with its Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in Languichatte. The MPAH has the gratification of knowing they were able to honor her long and illustrious career before her passing.

After the series "Languichatte" ended, Marie-Andree Raymond Jeudy continued her acting career with stage roles in Haiti and abroad. The government of Haiti and the country recognize Jeudy's lasting contributions to Haitian culture. She will be greatly missed by all.
