Haiti loses former ambassador Guy Alexandre

Mr. Alexandre was born in St. Marc, in 1945. At the age of forty-six, he became Haiti's diplomat to the Dominican Republic. He then became an important person, who could help people have a better understanding of the tense diplomatic relations between the two countries. Alexandre would lose this diplomatic post in 2003.

In 2004, he started working as a senior advisor to the Haitian Government for international relations. He left the post in 2006. After this he started working as a senior advisor and program manager in the International Organization for Migration in Haiti. A short time ago he published a book that was about how to improve the relationship of the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

His death is a big loss for Haiti and for his family. Mr. Alexandre was the husband of Evelyn Margon, Rachelle Alexandre's father and grandfather of three children. Mrs. Alexandre described her late husband as an honest and uncompromising intellectual who believed in people and knowledge. Ilaria Lanzoni, IOM spokeswoman, characterized him as the institutional memory of Haiti on the subject of migration and a precious expert for IOM.

Former Prime Minister, Jean-Max Bellerive, who often had discussion with Mr. Alexandre about the Dominican Republic, politics and immigration, said that Mr Alexandre was not only a big brother to him, he was also a true democrat, who always looked for a pragmatic way in order to improve the life of Haitians.
