Ambassador Carl-Henri Guiteau Appointed Envoy to the Holy See

In an official letter of acknowledgement, Pope Benedict XVI expressed his hopes for the future of Haiti, a country historically wracked by natural disaster, unstable governments, poverty, violence, and a rotting infrastructure.

Benedict XVI, in his letter to Ambassador Carl-Henri Guiteau, wished for him and Haiti the cooperation of the international community of donors to provide assistance to the poorest segments of the population. In particular, he stressed the disunification of families leading to the Diaspora, especially in the U.S.

Benedict XVI wrote about effective stewardship of the environment, in which deforestation has been endemic on the tiny island. The desecration of natural resources has had a deleterious impact on the most poverty-ridden Haitian families.

Benedict XVI also addressed the issues of family-centered Christian values. In order to establish and preserve these values, government must legislate and implement social programs to ensure victims of domestic violence and their families receive protection and prevention education. Further elaborating on the topic of education, he asserted Haitian youth must be educated to begin breaking the cycle of grinding poverty much of the country suffers from.

Concluding his letter, he offered Carl-Henri Guiteau the unqualified support of Holy See administrative officials and his blessings for the country of Haiti and its government.
