The names were announced in recent weeks and the news has been met with favorable responses for the diverse selection that also includes Jamaican native Una Clarke, who served as a city councilwoman, the first woman born in the Caribbean elected to the New York City Council, for a decade. Clarke, during her tenure as city councilwoman, served the 40th Council District in Brooklyn after being elected in 1991.

Elsie Saint-Louis works as the head of a not-for-profit known as the Haitian-Americans United for Progress. Around for nearly 40 years, the organization gives aid to individuals and families that are low-income, having had its start as a means of giving aid to immigrants and refugees. Today, her group has broadened its scope to include giving assistance to all constituents, despite their ethnic and religious background or nationality.

According to de Blasio, these two influential women and the rest of his team will, together with the co-chairs of Transition NYC, Jennifer Jones Austin and Carl Weisbrod, help their city attain prosperity for all by gathering knowledge and experience from the populous and putting it to use.

Other members of the de Blasio team include: founder of the Christian Cultural Center, the Rev. A.R. Bernard, founder and president of the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute, Marta Moreno Vega, and Thelma Golden, chief curator and director of the Studio Museum of Harlem.
