An earthquake can leave a lot of destruction. It is fatal and it can lead to broken buildings, bridges and structures. The best way to do during an earthquake is to hide and run for cover until the tremors stopped. You should hide in a place where you can be protected from falling objects. Only get out of it when you are assured of safety. While there are ways to survive an earthquake, what about after the disaster? Here is a guide on how to deal with the aftermath of an earthquake.

First of all, check yourself for any injuries or wounds and then see if people around you are safe as well. If you sustained injuries, apply a quick first aid. Be wary of gas leaks and don't ever turn on the gas after a quake.

Wait for a professional to do it because it might cause an explosion or fire. If the quake caused a blackout, it is best to switch off the main power line to prevent electrical problems should the power returned suddenly.

Look around the place. If you see any major damages or cracks along the walls, it's best to get out of it as fast as you can because the building might collapse.

Another thing to remember after a quake is that there is likely to have aftershocks. Given this, it is advisable to stay in your hiding place several minutes after the quake just to prepare for possible aftershocks, which are sometimes much stronger.
