As per the statement of Blas Peralta, the President of the Fenatrado, the incident started with a fight between two Haitians at the bilateral Friday market in Jimani, who fought with their machetes. One of them took out a gun and killed the other. Then several other Haitians came and took the deceased's body in Haiti and announced that he had been killed by the Dominicans. This indictment sparked a fire and a quick mob was formed immediately who attacked all the Dominican vehicles present nearby; burned the tires of 60 vehicles, broken truck windows and stole goods from the trucks. Twenty truck drivers were heavily injured. Some drivers were taken and admitted to the hospital of Jimani Melenciano. The damage to trucks amounted to over 100 million pesos, excluding the cost of the goods lost.
With this act of savagery, the Dominicans authority has suspended their transport operations in Haiti and has demanded compensation for stolen and damaged goods and guarantee to respect agreements on security cover.
