In Haiti, Drought is usually believed as a natural disaster beyond human control. But as researchers carefully look into the earth's changing bio climate, and the symbiotic relationships between livings organisms and climatic forces - They come to realize the crucial role of Deforestation.

For decades, we've been ecologically destructed our own habitat in the pursuit of financial stability without reminding the consequences of our mass destructively demolition. No mistake about it, deforestation brings lots of unexpected effects on our own Soil and results in many consequences.

Deforestation also leads to soil erosion, floods, climate change, health issues, ecological degradation, biodiversity, and wildlife extinction, and lastly community devastation to name a few. Even though, all of these actual facts are scientifically proven to be true, Haitians seem to be careless, selfish, and even ignorant about the problematics/consequences. Instead, they cut down massively the forestall trees to make Charcoal as the primary source of fuel consumption for cooking. Consequently, Haiti remains still one of the most deforested nations in the western hemisphere.

It has been observed that around 3.6 million people in Haiti are currently struggling to feed themselves. According to the World Food bank, this has been caused by three consecutive years of drought that have affected harvest and raised food prices in Haiti.The water shortage is caused by a weather phenomenon called El Nino. According to observers, the current El Nino has caused widespread crop losses in several countries.

There is a crisis in the making in Haiti and surprisingly enough, not too many people are talking about it. The country has been in the middle of a severe drought that caused acute water shortages and weakened even further our food supply. As a result, food prices in Haiti have gone to the roof while increasing hunger among the poor.

Things are not getting better at all in Haiti:
It has been estimated that over thirty percent of the Haitian population is moving into food insecurity. Prices of food in Haiti have increased by as much as 60 percent since April, according to some observers. Another thing that has made matter worst is the depreciation of the Haitian gourde. This has contributed to the rise in the price of most food consumed by the population.

Haiti has been bracing for an extreme food shortage, and it is arriving as the June and July harvests are set to begin. This year's rainfall is anticipated to be well below average. The Spring-Summer harvest season is important because crop yields comprise two-thirds of the harvest that contributes to the island's yearly food output.

Other factors causing agricultural underproduction include 2012's drought and two major hurricanes that hit that year as well. Of the 10 million people living on the island, 75% of them exist on barely $2.00 a day. Of this figure, 1.5 million are suffering from malnutrition, 82,000 of them pre-schoolers. Unfortunately, the country experiences one of the highest levels of child hunger in the Western Hemisphere, which contributes to its high ranking on the failed states index.
