Haiti Senate voted resolution to stop election process

The Haitian Senate joined its force to the increasing number of people in the population trying to stop the election scheduled for January 24. The Senate voted a resolution last night demanding that the CEP stop the election process. 15 Senators voted in favor of the resolution, 5 voted against and no abstention for the resolution which will be handed to President Michel Martelly by January 21 to be published in the newspaper "Le Moniteur".

Jude Celestin out of election, leaving Jovenel Moise to run against himself

There is something that people in Haiti often say: "Pwoblem Pap Fini nan peyi sa". It translates as "Problem will never end in this country". That could't be more true than now with what is going on with the presidential election. To demonstrate how we (Haitians) have the capacity to create KO, just 10 days before a scheduled presidential election, one candidate has decided to make it official that he will not be participating. In an interview at radio Kiskeya on January 14, Jude Celestin made it clear that he will not be one of the presidential candidates for the January 24 elections.

UN wants run-off election rescheduled quickly in Haiti

On Wednesday, December 23, 2015, the Security Council of the United Nations issued a message to the Haitian authorities, instructing them to quickly reschedule the presidential election postponed this week. The UN body also urged all sides to remain calm and refrain from violence or other provocations and to solve electoral disputes through legal rules and regulations. The 15 members of the UN Security Council also issued a statement in their strong commitment to supporting free and fair elections. As you may remember, the CEP published results of the presidential election and declared that Jovenel Moise came in first place with 32.8 per cent of the votes and Celestin placed second with 25.3 per cent. Some opponents allege fraud by the Martelly PHTK party. An election evaluation committee has been established in an attempth to solve the current crisis, but no new date has been set for the run-off election. The election evaluation committee has until December 30 to issue their recommendation.

Renmen Ayiti said no to Euvonie Georges Auguste in Commission

Platform Renmen Ayiti was in shock to learn that member of its Board, Mambo Euvonie Georges Auguste, was appoint by President Michel Martelly to be part of his Commission of Electoral Evaluation and as a result has formally requested that she renounces to any participation in this Commission. For the Political Platform, the formation of this Commission is contrary to the request of the G8 which calls of preference in favor of the establishment of an independent commission of inquiry. In addition, Platform Renmen Ayiti denounced the new Commission of Electoral Evaluation, saying that it is contrary to the request of the G8 which calls for the establishment of an independent commission of inquiry.

Date for Haiti Runoff election scheduled for March 20, 2011

Haiti Electoral Council has scheduled Haiti election Runoff for March 20, 2011. The campaign for the 2nd tour will start officially on February 17 and will end March 20. Final results announcing the new president of Haiti will be done on March 31.

Who said The Haitian leaders could not work together and solve their own problems. Look at this:

- For the good of the country, Jude Celestin, in agreement with the decision of The Organization of American States, will not participate in the election. Remember that Jude Celestin came in second in the preliminary results.

The "Haitian Joudalist" learned that Jude Celestin is playing either hard ball or hard to get with Rene Preval, his party Unity and the International community. Celestin just would not confirm that he is in fact withdrawing from the electoral race in Haiti.

Be reasonable man!

So far, everyone but Jude Celestin, has declared that he is out of the race.

More importantly, no one can find him to make a statement.

Supporters of Michel Martelly protest Election results

The results of the Haiti election 2010 put Mirlande Manigat and Jude Celestin in the lead to participate in the runoff election scheduled for January 16. However, supporters of candidates Michel Martelly, also known as Sweet Micky, did not accept the results quietly. It has been widely expected that the runoff election would be between Michel Martelly and Mirlande Manigat.

Supporters of the popular musician and presidential candidate Michel Martelly set up barricades and burned tires throughout the night and also on the day following the election results were publicized. Hundreds of protesters blocked streets, some buildings were set on fire. One protester said to the news media:" It is not power that should give power"

Rene Preval urges for calm after Election results

Following the chaos triggered by the results of the 2010 Haiti Election results, Rene Preval appealed for calm. As thousands of supporters of Michel Martelly took to the streets protesting the election results in which their candidate was not qualified to participate in the runoff election, the president admitted allegation of frauds in the election.

Rene Preval stated that: "If there are problems we can sit down and personally discuss it"." We are asking everyone, please stop burning tires on the roads, stop destroying government buildings, stop attacking people's businesses. We are asking every one to obey the law."" Investors would not want to come if things stay like that."

Haiti reactions to the Election Results 2010

The election result announced late on December 7 showed former first lady Mirlande Manigat and Rene Preval's hand picked man Jude Celestin as the two candidates that will be participating in the runoff election.

Michel Martelly has 21.84 percent and Jude Celestin, 22.48 percent, a difference of less than one percent. Supporters of Michel Martelly, wrecking properties, setting barricades with stones, burning tires, or using any means available to disrupt activities. In Les Cayes, It was reported that several government buildings were burned down.
