Haiti elections for senators and Deputies to take place in July

The electoral council, membered by nine people, was quick on the job after being assigned the task of scheduling the local and presidential elections. The news of the timetable put an end to the two-day general strike that saw the expected blocked roads, and demand for the president's resignation, but none of the scheduled plans will be set in stone until the executive presidential order has made them publicly known. In the meantime, however, council member, Yolette Mengual said that the group is working assiduously to present the nation with an election that was democratic, organized and transparent.
The opposition party, which staged the many protests, have denied being part of the movement that saw to the burning of vehicles including one of the Haitian Department of Public Works. They demand that their protests against the government have remained passive and free of violence. However, presidential spokesman, Lucien Jura, is reported to have called their demonstrations full of terror.
A runoff for the presidential vote will be held in January of 2016.
