Finland to Reinforce Cooperation in Education with Haiti

The ministry of National Education and Vocational Training, together with a Finnish delegation, had a five-day mission investigating the progress in Haiti as far as education is concerned. The Director of International Relations at the Ministry of Education in Finland presented the positive assessment of the work that has been done by Haiti ministry of education to the Haitian press.


Jaana Palojarvi, the Director from Finland, spoke of her opportunity to get to the public and private schools. She said this has enabled her to know the areas that need cooperation with Finland so that they can give Haiti's education assistance. According to her statements, Finland is fully prepared to give support to Haiti as far as education improvement is concerned.

The key issues that were discussed with the directorate of Curriculum and Quality of Training and Development, were touching areas in education. These were basic education, secondary education and the childhood education. The projects of teacher's training, and curriculum reforming, by the ministry, will be reinforced in a few months. The Finnish Director expressed her expectations to see the cooperation between Finland and Haiti.

Palojarvi is expected to return to Finland and sign an agreement of cooperation with the Haitian Government. Her return will be on September 2014. The partners from Haiti are also expected to make trips for field study in Finland to assess the system of education, and grasp the quality of education to take back home.

The Haitian minister of education appreciated the willingness of Finland to assist them in uplifting their education system. New opportunities have opened up for Haiti.
