Beginning at age 16, Jason Joel Desrouleaux has been composing material for Diddy, Danity Kane, and Lil Wayne, among other recording artists, and had dreamed of being a solo recording artist. His singing, dancing, and acting in Broadway productions prepared him to win the grand prize on Showtime at the Apollo's TV season finale. Music producer J.R. Rotem signed him to Rotem's label, Beluga Heights Records, and his work ethic has been characterized as "one of the most impressive work ethics . . . he just keeps knocking out songs in the studio" . . . . "an amazing quality."
At age 17, his music career officially began as featured singer on "Bossy". Three years later, he debuted as a solo artist with the single "Whatcha Say", and started recording his first album In My Head, which charted at number 63, on Billboard's Hot 100, landing at the number five spot. His debut album, re-named Jason Derülo, released in March 2010, led to being the opening act for Lady Gaga's Monster Ball Tour. His third single off his album charted at the number nine spot on Billboard's Hot 100.
Derulo's second album Future History, released in September 2011, includes a series of webisodes, showing his recording of the album, and uploaded to his website weekly. Future History's first single "Don't Wanna Go Home", released in May 2011, charted at number one and five in Britain and Australia.
Jason Joel Desrouleaux's momentum, interrupted earlier this year, 2012, when he suffered a cracked vertebrae, during the Future History Tour rehearsals, forcing him to cancel the tour. Derulo is an innovative promoter of his talent, shown by webisodes for Future History. If innovation is the key to major success, he is on his way.
