Standing on the back of a pickup truck alongside Narcisse, he spoke for about seven minutes before an audience of about 2,000 supporters. 'September 30th' is an important date for him, because on this day in 1991 he was forced out of his office by a military coup and fled Haiti for Venezuela within 7 months of becoming Haiti's first democratically elected president. Aristide, a former slum priest, came back to power for two years between 1994 and 1996 and again from 2001 to 2004 but was again overthrown of his office by a popular revolt. He went for an exile of 7 years with his wife on board a U.S. military plane to the Central African Republic (February 29, 2004); came back to Haiti in March 2011. Dr. Narcisse is a medical doctor and a long-time advocate for democracy in Haiti. She has always remained in the forefront of efforts to provide community-based health care and education for all Haitians. After Aristide's exile in 2004, she became the personal spokesperson for President Aristide and was instrumental in creating an international voice for the Lavalas movement. She is one of the 56 candidates for the upcoming Presidential election on October 25, 2015, to replace President Martelly who is incapable to run for two consecutive terms.
