Daniel Theodore Lost Tooth After Beaten By Wencesclas Lambert

When a political meeting was going on in the town of Marigot on Sunday, 9th March 2014, a young activist named Daniel Théodore, a second year student of agronomy from the Public University of East Jacmel (LIPSEJ) and a delegate of MORACS was attacked by Senator Wencesclas Lambert (South-East). The aggressive assault caused injury and the loss of two teeth to the citizen. The Senator Lambert hit Daniel Theodore twice in the face before many observers who were attending the meeting. As per the Senator's statement the student was at fault because he disrespected his joint authority as a Senator and a Chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee and vehemently abused him during the middle of a meeting. The student called that the declaration by Senator Lambert is not true. He stood up and outlined the inconsistencies, unkept promises made four years ago (construction of a health center in the area) and raised corruption charges against the Senator.

When he was asked if the citizen posed a threat to his security or deserved an apology, he said it was the citizen who must offer him an apology. He is a self-respected person. If anybody declares him liar before the attendees of a Senator's meeting, there is nothing wrong to lose nerves and give him two well deserved punches on the face. Had his security been present on the spot, he would have been arrested.

Daniel Théodore who was going to give an interview on the following day on 10th March to René Voltaire, a correspondent from Signal FM was again subjected to beatings of the senator who had been informed of the interview before.

Two Human rights lawyers Andre Michel and Newton Saint Juste came to Daniel's support against this barbaric act. They will file formal criminal complaint against the Senator for alleged assault at the Marigot police station. The police had informed him earlier that the Senator enjoys immunity against such act. They will continue the case until the triumph of justice comes.

The outrageous act of the parliamentarian has been condemned by every section in the Haitian society.
