Shooting at RDNP office of PM candidate Mirlande Manigat

Mirlande Manigat has been the target of crime. We just learned that there has been a shooting at the RDNP office of Mirlande Manigat. No injuries have been reported. The unidentified shooter fled the scene. Mirlande Manigat is one of the six candidates for the position of Prime Minister for the new Provisional government of Jocelerme Privert. She has been considered to be the leading candidate

RNPD, Professor Leslie Francois Manigat, targeting Haitian youth

A call has been issued to the youths of Haiti. By whom has it been made? Former Haitian President and professor Leslie François Manigat is the man responsible for the call that would mobilize the young in Haiti for the purpose of changing the future through politics.

The Rally of Progressive National Democrats (RDNP), represented by current coordinator for National Youth Council of the RDNP, Présumé Montès, wants Haitian youths to join the party, following the bid of the former president and founder of the party. Describing the current course of the country, under the regime of President Michele Martelly and Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, as a "shipwreck", the party promises to train the young recruits to become capable leaders.

Haiti Political parties and their Leaders

Throughout the history of Haiti, only a few political parties have had a strong organizational structure. In the 1870s and the 1880s, the Liberal Party and the National Party were the two dominant political parties in Haiti reflecting the social and class division that exists in the country. On one side, you see the Liberals party composed mainly of the wealthier and better-educated mulatto minority in Haiti. On the other hand, the Nationalists Party, made mainly of the lower-and middle-class black majority.

Following the United States occupation (1915-34), the nationalist parties organized around the issue of resistance to foreign occupation. The political parties in Haiti started multiplying during the presidential campaign of 1946. Many candidates were participating, including: Parti Socialiste (PSP), Parti Democrate Unifi (PDU), Mouvement Ouvrier Paysan (MOP) and many more. During the Duvalier reign, most political leaders had been silenced.

Ruelle Vaillant Massacre

With the active complicity of Haiti's armed forces, the paramilitary neo-Duvalier sabotaged post Duvalier's first ballot. The country would be able to select leaders democratically by this ballot. In Port-au-Prince at the Ruelle Vaillant alley 20 voters were sadly murdered.

Effect of the Terror Wave
The terror wave or a thunderbolt from the sky on 29th November 1987 affected the Artibonite and other departments. This massacre announced the country's general context of 26th April 1986 or in 22nd June 1987 to 29th November 1987.

General Henri Namphy, chairman of the National Council of Government was not in favor of the electoral process. Through different measures he demonstrated this which escaped the Army's control. He got his own writ published on 22nd June 1987 by ignoring the 1987 constitution.

It's Official, it's Jude Celestin and Mirlande Manigat

This is it folks. The two candidates qualified for the runoff election in Haiti are Jude Celestin and Mirlande Manigat. The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) just releases this information today.

No more rumors, no more speculations, no more guessing. Jude Celestin will confront Mirlande Manigat in the run-off election which is scheduled to take place on January 16, 2011. We know now for the next five years, Haiti will be governed by either Madame Manigat or Mr. Celestin.

Mirlande Manigat, the presidential candidate for the Rally of Progressive National Democrats (RDNP), was one of the 12 candidates who declared that the 2010 Haiti election should be cancelled because of fraud. However, when she realized that she would likely be among the front runners and would be qualified to participate in the runoff election, she changed her mind.
