Haitians quietly adjusting to the collapsed Bridge on Route 9

Take a look of the collapsed Bridge On Route 9 over Riviere Grise. This bridge that collapsed few months ago has not been fixed. It joins one of the most frequented roads in Haiti. Because of it importance in transportation, many cars and trucks have taken their chances by crossing the river. Also there is also an opportunity in any situation. Some local people are now charging a fee to transport people over their back from one side of riviere Grise to the other. Onced more this demonstrates the tolerance of the Haitian people and the indifference of their authorities.

Riviere Grise Getting a Facelift for its Levees

Laurent Lamothe, Prime Minister (PM), made a trip to Cul de Sac. Minister of Agriculture (MOA), Thomas Jacques, and other members of the government of Haiti (GOH) went along. Lamothe was there to monitor the construction project fortifying Rivière Grise's levees.

The Ministry of Treasury is financing this endeavor at a cost of 300 million gourdes. The work includes reinforcing levee infrastructure and replanting trees in the area. In April, the initial phase began and the second phase in now in progress.

Lamothe spoke to the media about what this project means to GOH and Cul de Sac residents. He said 50 years have elapsed since GOH has shored up the Rivière Grise levees. He said GOH's viewpoint concerning the populace, watershed, and agriculture is GOH must supply sufficient protection toward tropical storms, forcing people out of their homes, damaging the land. He added GOH understands its stewardship toward the land and its people.

Minister of Agriculture, Thomas Jacques, monitoring work at Riviere Grise

Departmental Director of the West, Mr. Arnoux Severin and Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Thomas Jacques together went on a monitoring survey of the gabionade and clearing works in Rivière Grise. The purpose of the visit by the two Agricultural Engineers was to monitor the work progress.

The overall project has an estimated cost of 62 million gourdes which will come from the state government treasury. The work spans over an area of length 6.3 km. This project will go through three major bridges which include Tabarre Bridge, Croix-des-Missions Bridge and Duvivier Bridge. The work will end at Duvivier Bridge. The Duvivier Bridge is located in the Cité Soleil town. The estimated time frame for the entire work has been calculated to be 3 months.
