As this was the price to be paid, the government had to make it happen and find the $2 million. Otherwise the Haitians would have been kept away from their most dear competition of the year. Haiti has just been taken out of the list of countries that it is recommended not to travel to. It is trying to rebuild its economy and the political party that rules, tries to maintain a policy of popularity among Haitians.
It is estimated that the monetary profits set for FIFA to generate during this tournament is up to $4 billion, out of which, about 60% will come from charging for broadcasting rights. Diego Armando Maradona strongly disagreed with FIFA's attitude towards the Haitian government and the people of Haiti, as a result of their not considering the country's struggles and financial restraints. No FIFA official has made any public statement, so far. The people of the "devastated country", as Diego Armando Maradona called Haiti in the interview taken, still look forward to their favorite team to take the cup home.
