Truck Accident near Saint-Marc, 22 people dead and more than 30 injured
According to news just received, there has been a major truck accident on Friday, January 25, 2013 in Haiti. A truck coming from Bainet in direction to Anse-à-Foleur lost control and overturned in a canal. More than 50 people were on the truck.
It has been reported that 22 passengers who were in a truck carrying pilgrims have lost their lives and another 30 had been injured. The Haitian authorities expect the death toll to increase as several of the those injured were critical and will likely not make it alive.
According to police, the truck that was traveling to near the town of Saint-Marc, about some 100km north of the capital, fell into a canal. Many of the victims drowned following the truck accident, some died crushed by the truck.
Will Dimanche before Senate Committee on Towing
Will Dimanche, Director of Traffic Services and Traffic Police, came under fire about procedures used in towing vehicles from Senator Steven Benoit, of the Senate Committee on Justice and Security. Benoit wanted answers about what companies are towing, who their owners are, precise tow fees, third-party money allocation, and sources of money transactions. In short, he senses a fraud scheme. He suggests the Highway Code is not being followed by Dimanche.
The process of towing vehicles in Port-au-Prince and Pétion-Ville has gotten bogged down. Both have seen an increase in motor vehicles and more companies doing business. A third problem is the rise in abandoned vehicles on public thoroughfares.
National Police of Haiti to use speed radars To Decrease Road Accidents
The National Police of Haiti has received tools that can help it prevent road accidents. Ambassador of France in Haiti Didier Le Bret handed over a set of speed radars and breathalyzers to the police. The devices are expected to help in the police's efforts to curb down the number of road accidents in the country.
The turnover was made at a ceremony that marked the end of a two-week road safety training conducted by gendarmes and the United Nations Police. During the training, Haitian officials were taught how to properly use the speed radars and breathalyzers which can help the authorities nab people driving under the influence of alcohol.

Breaking News - Minibus accident at avenue Poupelard, 8 in very serious condition
The CPD, officers of the National Police and of the Stabilization mission of the UN (Minustah) reported that a accident involving a Minibus caused 24 injuries. Eight of the victims are in a very critical state. The injured people were transported to the Hospital of the State University of Haiti to receive care.
As it is often the case, the reason for this accident was "Brake system failure". The minibus involved in the accident ensures daily transportation between Delmas and Portail Léogâne. The people that were struck include passer-bys, and the merchants of the place.
Accident near Fond Parisien, 12 people have died
A cargo truck accident last Tuesday night near the town of Fond Parisien in Haiti took the lives of 12 people. Twenty four others were injured and taken to a hospital nearby for care.
According to Haiti's Civil Protection Office, the cargo truck was also carrying passengers. The truck came from the village of Thiotte in direction to the capital city of Port-au-Prince and was loaded with carrots.
The passengers were riding on top of the merchandise when the accident happened.
This is yet another fatal road accident in Haiti likely caused by an overloaded vehicle.
40 people drown when bus overturns in Glace River, near Pestel Haiti
A bus overturned on Monday 18th June 2012 in flooded Glace River in the southern area of Haiti and near the town of Pestel. Since the accident officials have been issuing contradictory reports regarding the number of people who were aboard and the number who died.
The bus accident took place somewhere near the town of Pestel. The town is located on Haiti's southern peninsula. The director of civil protection of Haiti, Marie Alta Jean-Baptiste, was reported saying that the driver of the bus had received warnings against crossing the rain swollen Glace River.
Miami Mini Bus, a Miami-Dade's jitneys
They are number of mini buses which are referred to as Miami-Dade's jitneys. The term ''jitney'' means a five-cent piece in Haiti; this was the cost of a ride on the vehicle. Many people prefer Miami Mini Bus because of their availability and convenience.
In addition, the fares are reasonable as compared to other means of transport. The jitneys have no fixed schedules; instead they are flexible and zoom by after around every five minutes. They have routes throughout the county; they make stops anytime they are asked to. Their sizes make it possible for them to maneuver in traffic unlike the big buses.
Salsa d'Haiti Offering More Long-Flight Destinations to Diaspora
Haitian airline Salsa d'Haiti occupies parking and hangar space at Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince. Salsa d'Haiti, whose acronym translates in English as Latin American Air Services Corporation of Haiti, serves as a domestic airliner for round-trip service between Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien. It makes several daily runs between the two cities.
A private airline, Salsa d'Haiti was established in 2008. Its mission has been to offer excellent, quality service at affordable price-rates for travelers within Haiti borders. Salsa d'Haiti is not restricting its service only to the Port-au-Prince-Cap-Haitien corridor, but is planning to extend flight destinations for the Diaspora residing beyond Haiti's borders. The airline also wants to offer the Haiti tourism industry the ability to present travel packages to foreign tourists for destinations beyond Port-au-Prince.
Delta Airlines to start Atlanta Flights to Haiti
Delta Airlines on April 7, 2012, launched flights from Atlanta to Haiti. The airline started operations at the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, with a weekly flight on a Boeing 737-800.
The inauguration ceremony took place at Hartsfield-Jackson airport Atlanta, where Delta Airlines was pleased to announce its newest Saturday flight on a comfy aircraft. It will connect business people and aid workers travelling to Haiti from Atlanta.
Georgia is the home to an estimated 5,000 people of Haitian origin. Delta Airlines will thus connect the people to their families. The Delta flight 685 will depart from Atlanta airport at 11:15 am and arrive in Port-au-Prince at 2:21 pm. The flight 684 will leave Port-au-Prince at 3:25 pm to arrive in Atlanta at 6:49 pm. It will strengthen the process of internationalization of investment in Haiti.
