World Heavyweight Champ, Adonis Stevenson, Haiti's Pride and Joy

The latest national source of pride for Haiti is its native son, Adonis Stevenson, who has become the World Champion Boxer in the heavyweight division for the third time. He won over Chad Dawson with a KO in just over a minute, 78 seconds to be exact. His first two heavyweight titles were fought against opponents, Travis Cloud and Tony Bellew.

Stevenson began life in Port-au-Prince in 1977, immigrating to Canada with his family at five. They settled in Quebec, where Stevenson began his boxing career. He has racked up an impressive record of 22 wins out of 23 fights, 19 of which were KOs.

Fighting at the Australian Commonwealth Games, he picked up the Silver Medal. Prior to that, he held the Championship Boxing Crown of Canada from 2004 to 2006. By the time he turned pro in 2006, he had beaten twelve challengers by a unanimous decision.

Stevenson has been on a visit to Haiti, during which he has met with young boxers in the metro areas on the island. On one visit to the Carrefour Boxing Sports Center, other sports stars showed up to autograph boxing memorabilia along with Stevenson.

The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Civic Action took advantage of Stevenson's visit to Haiti to praise his exceptional talent and prowess in the ring. The Minister did not fail to remind the Haitian people it is the soaring achievements of athletes like Stevenson that improves Haiti's image around the globe.
