Cuba dedicates an entire week to celebrate Haitian culture

Haitian Ambassador to Havana, Jean Victor Geneuse said that taking account of the migration of Haitians to Cuba since the birth of the first black republic of the world, the process of cultural copulation is natural. The migration started from the days of Revolution when the Haitians moved to Cuba to flee the bloodbath of the Revolution but later there were temporary waves of farm workers seeking work in coffee and cane harvest.
In the process of this migration, the Haitian took their gastronomy, music, rituals, dances and traditions to the Cuban soil which lasted for more than a century and survived the test of time. The cultural week celebrated by Cuba in honor of Haitian culture included a photo and painting exhibit, 10 documentaries screening about Haiti, book launching as well as presentation on Caribbean women and contemporary art. A performance on Afro-Cuban poetry by Cuban Luis Carbonell was selected as the best performance. A tribute was paid to Haitian-Cuban singer Martha Jean Claude and Rigoberto Lopez, a Cuban film maker, presented a lecture on Haitian cinema.
