Us taking a double standard on Haiti, Tourism Vs Deportation

United States Government recently Issued Warning to Persons Wishing To Visit Haiti, at the same time is taking the position that the country is stable. On the one hand, U.S Department of State warning (dated May 22, 2017), all American citizens must carefully consider the risks of traveling to Haiti due to the country's current security environment and lack of adequate medical facilities. On the one hand, after granting an extension of six months, the U.S Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is now ready to repatriate more than 58,000 Haitian immigrants by January 22, 2018, because the DHS senior officials consider the present law and order situation in Haiti is "relatively stable".

To support their position, the department believes that the rebuilding of Haitian Presidential palace and withdrawal of UN peacekeeping troops in the country are definite signs of a "stable government in Haiti which is capable of governing its citizenry". It further suggests that the condition in Haiti, as a whole, is better than as they were seven years ago.

However, on the other, on the exact same day, the DHS issued the above alarming travel warning, cautioning own citizen about the terrible law and order situation in Haiti.

Currently, there are 58,706 Haitian beneficiaries of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program who are on temporary protection from deportation under a federal program for victims of disaster relief. If we consider the prevailing crime rates of the Caribbean countries, the violent crime rate of Haiti actually compares very favorably to other popular Caribbean travel destinations. For example, Jamaica has a murder rate almost 8 times that of Haiti.
