LGBT rights, Homosexuaslity or Masisi in Haiti

This event was marked by the presence of the supporting institutions for the International Day against Homophobia. Some of the institutions which participated in the first National Congress of LGBT Population were: Kouraj, AIDS and Promoters Target Zero, Ministry of Public Health, FACDIS (Women in Action against Sexual Discrimination), Sérovie, UNDP, UNAIDS, movement initiator working with UNFPA (United Nations Funds for Population Activities) and Housing Works.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights was declared in 1948 but the world saw the resolution of Council of Human Rights in 2011 and in the same year, the Human Rights' High Commissioner gave a historic report on practices and laws that clearly discriminate people based on their gender identities and their sexual orientation.

Nigel Fisher, the Acting Deputy Special Representative of MINUSTAH (UN Mission for the Stabilization Mission in Haiti), recalled the resolution and said that because human rights are universal, there should not be any discrimination. Fisher said that the LGBT rights recognition is a model concept of the struggle against this discrimination and a struggle to develop roots in the society.
