Strike causes bleeding pregnant woman to die at the gates of Haiti's Hospital

Would you believe this? A pregnant woman in an emergency situation in Haiti Capital was unable to receive the necessary help and as a result, both the pregnant woman and her unborn child end up dead. To make matter worst, they both died not because they did not seek out help, but she came in at the worong time, during a weeks-old strike by resident doctors, nurses and other staff.

Do you see anything wrong with this picture?

That happened on wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the gate of Haiti State University Hospital in Port-au-Prince. A bleeding pregnant woman dropped dead at the gates of Haiti's largest hospitasl just like an animal.

US donates trucks, boats to Haitian disaster relief

On Thursday, 16 January 2014, the response capabilities of Haiti in the event of major natural disaster was enhanced when the U.S. Ambassador Pamela White accompanied by other officials from U.S Embassy in a handover ceremony in the capital city, donated 12 transport vehicles and 12 watercrafts to Haitian Emergency Response and Civil Protection Agencies. The transport vehicles include six 20-foot, all-terrain cargo trucks, six all-terrain, large cabin pick-up trucks. The watercrafts delivered include twelve 18-foot search and rescue boats.

These trucks and boats were purchased under U.S. Southern Command's Humanitarian Assistance Program to extend Haiti's emergency response capabilities in life-threatening and natural disasters crises. The Haitian representatives from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security accepted the keys of the vehicles on behalf of country's National Police firefighters. The trucks will be used by the Association of Haitian Volunteer Firefighter and these will be added to their existing fleet of disaster relief capabilities in six of the ten Emergency Units built under U.S assistance program for strengthening Haiti's disaster response system.

New Air Ambulance Services in Haiti, for whom exactly?

This is what I saw in the newspaper this morning. A group of movers and shakers in the helicopter EMS industry has introduced a new air medical service for Haiti. The Haiti Air Ambulance (HAA)

Haiti Air Ambulance, a not-for-profit foundation will launch Haiti's first permanent helicopter EMS program.

They expect to provide life-saving emergency services to all Haitians regardless of income.

According to the information, this new service is supposed to alleviate Haiti's dire emergency medical needs.

Haitian Immigrant causes Brazil to declared "state of social emergency"

Amazon State of Acre declared a 'state of social emergency' on the wake of uncontrolled Haitian immigration. It was declared on April 9, 2013 by Tiao Viana, governor of Acre. The declaration of social emergency by the governor came with the hope that the Federal Government will help to contain the massive human trafficking that has plagued Acre of late. However, the Acre government did declare through its website that those who have already entered Brazil will be given the necessary aid.

While signing the decree, the governor said that the declaration formally recognizes the seriousness of the problem and that Acre alone is not capable of dealing with the situation and hence, it is looking for external help to contain the situation.

What is an AMBER Alert ?

An AMBER Alert is an urgent bulletin put out when a family abduction has taken place. Issued across all forms of media, it gives the physical description of both child and perpetrator. Along with the physical characteristics of perpetrator and victim, the license plate number and make and model of the crime vehicle is also included.

AMBER Alerts use the Emergency Alert System to broadcast to news, on-air, and Internet media outlets. Other outlets include electronic highway billboards and other billboard entities such as Clear Channel.

The responsibility of issuing an AMBER Alert usually comes under the jurisdiction of highway patrol or state trooper agencies, which involve themselves in investigation of the abduction.
