OAS recommends more dialogue between Dominicans and Haitians

If you expected the technical mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) to come hard on the Dominicans for the way in which they treat our Haitian brothers or Dominicans of Haitian descent, you will not be happy with their recommendations. More dialogues it is.

As you may know, a technical mission of the OAS was formed to look into the current immigration problem between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. After visiting both countries and talking to officials as well as some of the victims of the massive deportation at the border, the team concluded that the only solution to the matter is more dialogue between Haiti and the Dominican republic.

All five Dominican consulates in Haiti to reopen starting March 17, 2015

The Government of the Dominican Republic has ordered the reopening of their consulates in Port-au-Prince, Cap Haitien, Belladere, Ouanaminthe and Anse Pitres starting March 17, 2015. The consulates were closed on March 4, after attacks by some Haitians, including the tearing down and torching of Dominican flag at the consulate in Port-au-Prince.

The violent reaction in Haiti came as a result a Haitian man that was found hanged in a park in Santiago

Haitians in Dominican Republic demand the delivery of their passports

Several dozens of Haitians have been demonstrating in front of the Haitian Embassy in Santo Domingo to demand the delivery of their passports. Many stated that it has been over 5 Months since they applied for their passport, when the paid US $ 110 and they are still waiting to receive them

These people have been waiting for these passports which will enable them to take advantage of the new normalization program in Dominican Republic. The program is expected to end in may, 2015

Haitians and Dominicans, where is the love? VIDEO

Has the conflict between Haiti and the Dominican Republic reached a point where things can never get back to normal? Here are two of the most expressive acts so far, some Haitians were burning Dominican Flags in response to Haitian Flag burning in the Dominican Republic

Although the two governments have decided on talking for the sake of talking, the problem between the Haitians and the Dominicans is not getting any better. Now it has come down to the ultimate flag burning to show frustration.

Sadly enough, so far there has not been any real leaders arising from this crisis either on the Dominican or the Haitian side.

Citizens of Haitian origin and their Rights in Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is at it again, and with a ring of permanency this time as their Constitutional Court has ruled, in a move that cannot be appealed, that children born of Haitian parents without legal status in their country cannot be considered Dominican Republic nationals.

While claiming that the move is to provide these children with legal means of seeking their own, legitimate residency, the ruling has many humanitarians in the Dominican Republic and the United Nations up in arms about the implications of continued racism and the lack of human rights.

Over 200,000 people In Dominican Republic have no place to call Home

I have decided to no longer take certain things for granted. For example, I have been living in the United States of America for many years. But once in a while, I will get these racist jokes in the streets like: "Go Home". Some of the people I meet, once they detect that I have an accent, they usually want to know if I am "Haitian", "Jamaican", "African", etc...

Regardless of all the economic, political, social difficulties, I am always proud to say that "I Am Haitian". To show that they know something about Haiti, my country, many would respond "Sak Passe","Map Boule".
