Investigators raided private business office of Mayor Lucie Tondreau

While Mayor Lucie Tondreau denies any involvement in such a scheme, Miami Beach police and prosecutors from the Miami-Dade area affirm that the IP address used to submit the online requests has been traced back to Tondreau and Associates, the mayor's North Miami public affairs consulting company. From the search was uncovered the identities of more than fifty people whose information was used for the requests, which were submitted for the mayoral runoff in June as well as for the first round of municipal elections a month before. These ballots were not mailed as, due to their dubious origins, they were flagged as wary.

Following a tip made to the task force set up for absentee-ballot fraud by State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, a search warrant was issued for electronic equipment, including computers, and any other records pertaining to the campaign, including address books and financial reports that pertained to Mayor Lucie Tondreau and the treasurer of her campaign, Nacivre Charles who was, in 2011, the vice-president of her firm. Perhaps stemming from the search undertaken, Charles was arrested that day for driving on a suspended license.

Tondreau is only one of three politicians from the Miami-Dade area who have been caught up in separate fraud investigations on the same matter since May. The trend seems to be common practice in the campaigning world today as many use the unlawful method to increase their votes during the campaign.
