The president is expected back on April 12, 2012, to host the Mexican president, Felipe Calderon, who will make a brief visit to Haiti in response to official invitation of the head of state. They will be discussing bilateral relations between the two countries.
The president has undergone two surgeries in the recent months. He underwent a surgery late October last year on his left shoulder; though he had indicated on his departure that he was going for a routine check-up. After the surgery he attended a fundraising in support of education program in Haiti. Wyclef Jean, a friend to the president, graced the function with a group of Hollywood actors in a bid to make it successful.
All the same the president missed Easter weekend festivities and the occasion to celebrate the anniversary of Toussaint Louverture. He will also miss a protest organized by famous groups of Haitians. "It's time to pay tribute to the man who in the 18th century challenged the world order. His lucidity and courage showed to our ancestors the way of the freedom. Toussaint Louverture deserves the admiration of the whole world. But it is primarily up to us to honor his memory and to prove ourselves worthy of his heritage by practicing like him the patriotism and the solidarity. At this moment when our nation is facing adversities that seem insurmountable, we must, like Toussaint Louverture, be guided by wisdom, patience and determination." It is the 209 anniversary since the death of Toussaint Louverture.
