The Optimist Club, which comprises members from local businesses, civic leaders and the community intends for the site to give tutoring, help with homework, and classes in Film, Business Entrepreneurship and Robotics. Their program for recreational activities include soccer, yoga, basketball, self-defense and a garden program for the community.
Sponsors for the venture included a local Home Depot, and various contractors including Odebrecht Construction. These companies were able to offset a huge cost, donating new computers as well as expertise, helping to keep the total cost for the renovation of the space at $47,800.
The site for the new park is fortunate for the new Community Center, as Soar Park has long been a central point in the community. District 2 Commissioner for the Miami-Dade County, Jean Monestime has expressed that the building of the new Center should further strengthen the community, as it will work to gather all types of residents under one roof where learning and enrichment will be the norm.
Also available on the grounds of the Community Center will be a bulletin board used to post job vacancies, along with other information. There will also be an information desk and the center will serve as after-school care and will have summer camp programs.
