Adrien Sansaricq, an example of the role of Haitians in Cuba

Adrien Sansaricq went to Havana in 1962 to complete his medical studies. However, it was very clear that his sole intention was not studies because had that been the case, it would have been easier for him to move to Mexico or France. He represented a young revolutionary who was fine-tuned with the political process. Adrien joined the fight against U.S. Imperialism during October Crisis with other university students and in a euphoric state, sang on a loaded truck, the anthem - The Red Flag.

Adrien Sansaricq graduated in medicine and instead of performing social work, he chose to treat the peasants in Santo Domingo and Sierra Maestra side Perseverancia. The war against Fulgencio Batista made the peasant violent but Adrien went to Sierra Maestra and became friends with the fierce peasants and in difficult conditions, he fulfilled his job as a doctor. In 1965, Adrien became a Cuban Communist Party activist. Adrien is often described as a thin, tall and strong man with a fair complexion but of mixed race. He was peaceful and quite talkative and yet had a personality that reflected from his behavior.

He joined the revolutionary group created by Commander Che in 1965 and acted as a physician and a translator. In 1957 Francois Duvalier started the dictator regime in Haiti and during his tyrannical rule; the family of Adrien Sansaricq was almost entirely wiped out. Commander Che especially mentioned Adrien in his diary for his invaluable help to the Cuban Revolution.
