Cancelling Flights Due To Natural Disasters

Diasater in Haiti

Disasters are a valid reason for cancelling your flight. However, not every airline is willing to give you a full refund. Sometimes, airlines only give back a certain amount or a voucher for future use. This is why it would be better if you know some tips on cancelling flights during a disaster.

One thing to be aware of is buying tickets from third-party discounters. There are several third-party discount agencies that sell more affordable airline tickets. However, they are also unlikely to give refunds should you decide to cancel your flight. Your option when it comes to this is to buy tickets with a cancellation policy or to pay additional charge to avail of such a policy.

Government Commissioner, Jean Renel Senatus, to crack down on beggars, how far will he go?

Let me put it this way instead. Can Government Commissioner, Jean Renel Senatus, really crack down on beggars in Haiti?

To be fair to the Government Commissioner, he made the point that he is referring to beggars in front or near banks. "There are beggars, who are part of networks of thieves who stand in front of the BRH to the Rue Pavée, in front of the BNC, of commercial banks and serve as scouts for thieves".

If we had to come up with the real list of beggars in Haiti, I assume that the list would be pretty long. I have a few names:

1) The people at Airport Toussaint L'Ouverture who want to help you with your bags whether you want it or not.

Haitian passengers feel American Airlines exhibit patterns of disrespect toward them

What's going on with American Airlines and Haitian passengers at Toussaint L'Ouverture Airport after Isaac last weekend?

From what I heard, it was not a pretty picture at the Haitian airport in Port-au-Prince. I was told that many of our brothers and sisters who were scheduled to come to the US were unable to.

Hey, it happens all the times and every airport! so what is the big deal?

From what I understand, it was a problem of attitude and lack of respect for Haitian customers. Several people reported that after American Airlines had its flights cancelled to and from Haiti due to Tropical Storm Isaac, many passengers were left without any information about their options. Many people who live and work in the United States were not able to determine when they would be able to comeback to work. They also have the impression that American Airlines was not making any efforts to accommodate them as they were stranded at the Haitian airport.

After 40 years American Airlines has been flying to Haiti, what did we get out of it?

American Airlines took its first fly to Haiti on March 2, 1971, from New York to Port-au-Prince. On March 23, 2011 or forty years later, the American carrier is stronger than ever.

American Airlines now offers six daily flights to Haiti. From Florida, the airline offers five daily flights between Miami International Airport and Fort-Lauderdale. The airlines also offers one daily flight directly from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport to Toussaint L'Ouverture Airport in Port-au-Prince.

What did the Haitian population get for this?

Wouldn't it be better if we had our own airline?

Jean-Claude Duvalier referred to Airport as Francois Duvalier International Airport

We observed that during his first official press conference since returning to Haiti, Jean-Claude Duvalier referred to the Airport in Port-au-Prince as "Francois Duvalier Airport".

AIRPORT HISTORY:
The current airport in Port-au-Prince was built in 1965 and Named "Francois Duvalier Airport". After Jean-Claude Duvalier was exiled in France in 1986, the name of the airport was changed to "Port-au-Prince airport". It was again renamed in 2003 to "Toussaint L'Ouverture Airport.

That was the video where in his press conference, Jean-Claude Duvalier referred to the current airport in Port-au-Prince not as "Toussaint L'Ouverture International Airport" as the new official name to the airport since Jean-Claude went on exile but rather by its original name: Francois Duvalier International Airport.
