First community restaurant opens in Arcahaie

On 18th May, 2013, Jean-Jacques Charles, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, in presence of President Michel Martelly and his wife, First Lady Sophia Martelly and Prime Minister of Haiti, Laurent Lamothe, inaugurated Arcahaie's first community restaurant. This restaurant will be serving 500 people with hot meals every day for 5 days a week from Monday to Friday. Only a few days ago, a mobile clinic was inaugurated for treating 270 residents.

This community restaurant is the 5th of the planned 90. The Martelly-Lamothe administration has set the goal of creating 90 such restaurants. All the restaurants are and will be funded by Venezuela's Petrocaribe loans.

The mobile clinic mentioned before was installed by First Lady Sophia Martelly on 16th May, 2013 in Arcahaie which then led to the Festivities of Flag Day. The office of First Lady officially declared that from 16th May to 17th May, the Mobile clinic treated a total of 270 people which included 82 children, 143 women and 45 men. The mobile clinic consisted of one waiting room, one pharmacy and 2 consultation rooms. The mobile clinic provided free general consultation and free medicines were also distributed. Apart from that, details of those patients who required follow-up medical consultation were recorded.

There is much of community work being undertaken by the Martelly-Lamothe administration which is definitely helping the impoverished Haitians. However, the long-term results are worth waiting for and taking account of the political environment as a whole, it will be a blessing for the Haitians if these community works are based on strong foundation instead of a cover up!
