Pine forest (Forêt des Pins) in Danger of Extinction

A non-government agency (NGA), USAID PAPH, has joined the students to produce a documentary film, which depicts them planting saplings as part of a rite to highlight their concerns about losing Pine Forest. During the program at the end of a three-day conference, attended by members of Parliament, they performed poetry readings and sang their country's national songs.

The students also drafted a law, which calls for the protection of Pine Forest and other threatened forestlands throughout the island. In the policy statement, they criticized the government's callous attitude of allowing rampant deforestation to occur, destroying the fertile soil of Haiti. The students implored them to develop a policy to restore forestlands to their original state.

Back in Port-au-Prince, the students called a news conference, asking to meet with Parliament members . The students want that Parliament introduce their proposal for legislative action by years' end. To increase pressure on the government, the students have formed a broad coalition of other NGAs to continue pressing the government to accede to their demands.
