Degert repeated the UE's pledge to continue assisting the government of Haiti (GOH) through checking up on reconstruction projects in progress across the island. He shared with Martelly as well his enthusiasm to facilitate and fortify the ties of cooperation that bind the EU and Haitian governments.
Martelly in turn reassured Degert Martelly's government is willing to make available every financial resource including local businesses' involvement to continue developing more projects, especially in the hospitality, construction, and agriculture sectors. In the service of greater cooperative efforts trade agreements would also be high on the agenda of both the UE and Haiti.
During Degert's visit, in his first official and ceremonial duty as Ambassador of the European Union to Haiti, he presented a floral arrangement at the Haitian National Pantheon Museum in tribute to the founding father of the first black republic of the world, rebel leader Toussaint Louverture. You recall that Haiti gained its freedom on January 4, 1804, following a ten-year slave rebellion.
After the tribute, the Museum Director, Michele Frisch, led new ambassador Degert on a tour of the museum's collections where he viewed many exhibitions.
