Joseph Blatter arrived at Haiti on Monday 15th April for the inauguration of built or rebuilt infrastructure. This infrastructure was the part of 'Solidarity with Haiti' project. This infrastructure will be the new home for football in Haiti. FIFA approved $4 million for this project after the island nation was devastated by the 2010 earthquake. FIFA has also invested funds in Sylvio Cator Stadium for artificial turf implementation and lighting systems. Money has also been channeled towards re-launching the national competitions.
Four 'Goal Initiatives' have also been approved by International Federation of Football Association that totals up to a sum of $1.7 million. "Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF" scope has also received a FIFA funding of $600,000. Joseph Blatter also had other agendas in mind while visiting Haiti which included the discussion of the future of Haitian football with the authorities and a meeting with FHF (Haitian Football Federation) entities.
The direction is not wrong. Football can help Haiti in its social as well as economic reforms only if the steps are taken in the right direction. FIFA's support will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Haitian sport and economy as a whole.
