Cecile McLorin Salvant, First Haitian singer nominated for a Grammy Award

We finally have one of our own with a chance to be awarded with the prestigious Grammy award in the United States

Cecile McLorin Salvant who was born mi Miami, Florida and the product of Haitian father and Guadeloupean mother has been nominated for a Grammy award in the category Best Jazz Vocal Album.

Starting to learn classical poano at the very young age of five, Cecile McLorin Salvant later started studying with private teachers, then later with Edward Walker. She did not discover an interest in in Jazz music until she went to "Aix" school. She recordded her first music album "Cecile" with Jean Francois Bonnel Paris Quintet

8th Edition of the International Jazz Festival of Port-au-Prince

It is that time of year again when the city of Port-au-Prince, along with other host cities, is woken up by the sonorous sophistication that is jazz. From the 17th of January through to the 25th, the International Jazz Festival of Port-au-Prince promises to fill the air of the capital with the offerings from the 12 visiting participating countries who will take part in an equal number of concerts throughout the festival season.

Held now for its 8th year, the International Jazz Festival will feature performances from French acts, artistes from Cameroon, Benin and the United States, to name a few. The legwork and effort was made by partners of the Haiti Jazz Foundation, including the Tourism and Culture Ministries, the International Organization of the Francophony and 9 embassies.

Saxophone Branford Marsalis In The International Jazz Festival In Haiti

The 52 year old Bandford Marsalis arrived on Friday to perform at the International Jazz festival held at Port-au-Prince, bringing delight to this Caribbean nation. On Friday he was to perform the first show on Jacmel's coastal town. On Saturday he will perform the second show in Port-au-Prince.

About The International Jazz Festival

The concert venue was once a plantation for sugarcane. On Tuesday, he will host a private performance for Pamela While, the US Ambassador, at her residence. On reaching a Jacmel Hotel he stated that it was really cool to be there and the people were really beautiful.
