A day after President Michel Martelly left the island, the Prime Minister left for the West African nation of the Ivory Coast to seek integration for Haiti into the African Union; his office's official statement being that he would be discussing 'potential cooperation between the two countries'. This came after a busy month spent visiting other Caribbean Islands, South America and the United States.

With the aim of securing other partnerships like the recent one with Vietnam, which sees Haiti receiving 15,000 tons of rice monthly at a discounted rate of 40%, Lamothe also hoped to sign a technical agreement for assistance with Cacao production using the success of the Vietnam agreement as the prototype to soliciting this investment. Meetings with the Ivory Coast's private sector members in Abidjan and the country's Primer Minister, Daniel Kablan Duncan, and President Alassane Ouattara were on the agenda.

Accompanied by a delegation consisting of Pierre Richard Casimir, the Foreign Minister, Maxime Cherestal, the Director of Cabinet in the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation and the spokesperson for the majority bloc in the Chamber of Deputies, Abel Descollines, Lamothe also met with the Ivory Coast's small Haitian community, connecting with the country's Diaspora on the far away continent.
