On 17 January 2014, the President of the Haitian Football Federation (FHF) Yves Jean-Bart in presence of the Vice President of the federation, Gary Nicolas with Carlo Marcelin, the Secretary General along with other federation members like Pierre André Myrville, Varieno Saint-Fleur Monique André, Gabriel Rigaud Junior and national technical director, Wilner Étienne, has announced on the ranch of Croix-des-Bouquets that the national championship for the coming season will begin on 15 February.

The sixteen participating teams in the tournament will be Racing Club Haïtien, Valencia, Baltimore, Aigle noir AC, AS Petit Goâve, AS Mirebalais, Racine of Gros Morne, Tempête FC, Cavaly AS, Fica, Victory Sportif Club, Don Bosco SC, América des Cayes, ASC, the Racing of Gonaïves and Violette AC. The last two teams have qualified from D2 in the last season which was a cause of uproar to some. However, the President Yves Jean-Bart has replied that this is a pure sporting choice. Both of these teams have glorious past, reputation and tradition which others do not possess. Our process of selection selects only the bests, "the Super Elite", and that depends on many additional issues away from the performance on the field. The members who did not like this selection did never offer us any better alternative other than complaining on "spending issues". To make professional tournaments successful, money is the most essential ingredient.

Haiti's national soccer team, the Haiti National Football team (HNFT) has been competing since the 1960s in CONCACAF. Making the cut for the World Cup in 1974, they played against fierce competitors, the Italians.

Although they did not win, they made an impression with star player, Emmanuel Sanon, making the opening winning goal. In 1974 Antoine Tassy coached the HNFT with a roster of 22 players.

Despite his defeat (0-1) against the St. Louis Association North (ASSL) on 23 December,

The Old Lion is back into first division. Even though they lost to the team l'Association Saint-Louis du Nord (ASSL) in December 23, 2012, they are still qualified for first division.

A final so many have been waiting for, a meeting between Racing and Violette would make it very profitable to the clubs. However, this is not to be. Due to an overall poor performance in this season, Violette has moved into second Division.

Silvio P. Cator, a Haitian track and field competitor, was born on October 9, 1900 and died July 21, 1952. Before he began his track and field career, he played football at the Trivoli Athletic Club and participated in racing events for the Haitian Racing Club. He competed at the 1924 Olympic Summer Games held in Paris, France, in three events, the Free Rifle Team of Haiti, in which he achieved the Bronze Medal, the High Jump (in which he placed 15th), and the Long Jump (in which he placed 12th).

At the 1928 Olympic Games, held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Silvio Cator achieved the Silver Medal in the Long Jump Event, losing the Gold to Edward Hamm, by only 16 cm. However, only a few weeks later, in September, he set a new world record, smashing Edward Hamm's Olympic World Record in the Long Jump, by an astounding 7.93 m.
