It takes commitment, practice, and acceptance in the long run for a better, happier, and more productive existence to accept responsibility.

So what is accepting personal responsibility? First, it is being independently responsible for the decisions and actions one takes instead of blaming them on others. "This is your fault" is an expression individuals often say to people around them when everything turns out wrong, instead of blaming it on one's self. In the end, personal choices are what shape the direction and outcome of one's life.

Second, accepting that bad things happen, and the only way to overcome it is by staying positive and doing something about it without relying on someone else. "You make your own happiness", which is why problems should be dealt with maturely and positively instead of slowly throwing one's self to the pit of depression and self-pity.

Third, taking on responsibility is a matter of being honest with one's self with regards to admitting one's strengths, abilities, weaknesses, or shortcomings. Honesty comes with self-growth and self-improvement.

Personal responsibility is lastly and most importantly, letting go of the past and living in the now for a brighter, happier, more successful future. Letting go of previous problems and negative emotions result to a better way of thinking and living as growth and wisdom set in. This also brings out self-confidence and the will to just keep moving forward.
