HMS Iron duke is equipped with brand new 3D Radar system called RT997, a missile and technology system; it left its mother coast Portsmouth in last June. It carries a Lynx Mark8 helicopter, a versatile aircraft with a fighting force antenna that can locate pirates and illegal fishing, provides assistance during emergency evacuation and facilitates routine work such as the transfer of goods. It has 193 crew members on the board. This type of iron ship was first built in 1870 and this Iron Duke was launched in 1991; it is the third ship of the line to bear the name. The second HMS Iron Duke joined the Royal Navy on May 31, 1916; it was directed to the battle of Jutland-- the largest warship confrontation in the European history.
However, it seems that the concerned authority at Cap-Haitien was not properly briefed about the arrival of "HMS Iron Duke", as they took it on a bit of surprise mode.
