Haiti first H1N1 death in Thiotte, Nan Bannann, southern city of Belle-Anse

According to reports, the person who is suspected to have died because of the N1H1 actually contracted this virus in the city of Anse-a-Pitres which shares a border with Dominican Republic, the country where 8 people have been confirmed dead because of the N1H1 virus.

On 14th June, southeast part of Haiti reported of 5 people being affected by the H1N1. This was reported after the Trinidad and Tobago's Karpha Laboratory confirmed the tests sent to them from Haiti.

Health Ministry's General Director Guirlaine Raymond Charitte however stated that out of the 5 suspected cases, 3 have been confirmed to have been affected by the virus of which two are MINUSTAH's Chilean soldiers and one is a Haitian national. Charitte stated that though the person who died in Sacred Heart Hospital showed all signs of H1N1 infection, it is still to be officially confirmed whether the virus was really the cause of death.

Port-au-Prince officials stated that every suspected case is not necessarily a H1N1 infection case and only a proper test can confirm this.
