Haitian Newspapers Forge Joint Operating Agreement

The two newspapers will publish sharing the same printing presses, Haiti Liberté in French and Haitian Times in English. Although they will publish for the same distribution channels, editorial content will remain separate. Forward-looking Haiti Liberté, founded in 2007, focuses on news reporting and current events in Haiti. Within the past year, the newspaper has raised its international profile, collaborating with The Nation to release an article series regarding Haiti/US foreign policy secrets. This became possible through Wikileaks, which supplied intercepted foreign policy communications.
The Haitian Times, launched in 1999, covers news events and opines on Haiti and the Diaspora. It distributes to east coast cities and overseas. As a much-awarded news outlet, it is focusing more on its online edition, while cutting back on print distribution channels. Its owner, Gary Pierre-Pierre, waxes enthusiastic about the JOA with Haiti Liberté. He says the Haitian Diaspora in New York will benefit with more choices of newsprint, online, and mobile formats. He adds the extra distribution channels will expand its audience reach in the digital age.
Haiti Liberté Director Berthony Dupont comments that meshing the two news outlets will help them ". . . remain healthy and keep our publications going strong."
