He enrolled at the Academie International de Dance and became a professional dancer, performing in French nightclubs. After ten years of dancing locally and enduring a stretch of homelessness, he was finally discovered by producers, who hired him for a Coca-Cola commercial. Thus began his modeling career in which he achieved bookings with such famous designers as Gianfranco Ferré and Valentino.
Jean-Louis's high profile modeling stints attracted music video assignments and he performed alongside superstar music artists Mariah Carey, Seal, and George Michael. This led to a fledgling independent film career in Los Angeles. Then he began nabbing roles in mainstream feature films, starring such high-profile actors as Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jennifer Lopez, and Jane Fonda. However Jean-Louis only came to prominence when he won the role of The Haitian on Heroes, an NBC series. He reprised the role over 32 episodes. Jean-Louis is an accomplished performer, having made 20 feature films and acting in 15 television series, some of them recurring roles.
Jean-Louis was personally affected by Haiti's 2010 earthquake, returning to Haiti to see if his parents had survived. He ended up establishing a non-profit organization, Hollywood Unites, to deliver relief aid.
