Madonna in Haiti with her son Rocco, according to ex-husband Sean Penn

After many months of campaigning to get his former wife, pop icon Madonna, to visit Haiti, Hollywood actor and philanthropist, Sean Penn, has finally convinced her to take the trip. The two stars, who have remained friends since their divorce have kept in touch, allowing Penn to slowly work the idea of a Haiti visit into the material girl's head.

Speaking on his breakthrough, Penn stated that he'd recently heard she'd entered the Caribbean country, accompanied by her son, Rocco, though he was unaware of when they had arrived and when they planned to depart.

Still, the important part is that the visit happened in the first place. Since the 2010 earthquake ravaged the country, Penn has made considerable contributions to the rebuilding of the nation through the work of his foundation, the J/P Haitian Relief Organization. Most recently, the foundation successfully organized the participation of five runners from Haiti in the world-known New York Marathon. They were also behind the participation of Baywatch actress Pamela Anderson, who ran for the country.

Penn continues to work on behalf of Haiti, posting recently a picture on Instagram showing some 60,000 homes damaged by the earthquake. It was in the interest of finding more helpful people that he suggested Madonna make the trip, hoping she would take to heart some of the projects the foundation is working on in Haiti.

Since her visit, the star has hit the ground running, already posing for photos like the one she took with Dr. Paul Farmer at the site of a newly built hospital.
