Michael Etienne seeks to unseat Congresswoman Frederica Wilson
A North Miami city clerk since his election to the post in 2011, Etienne ran for Florida House the year before, but was unsuccessful. Also having worked as legislative aide to State Representative Daphne Cambell, he is an attorney and the host for a Haitian and Caribbean culture internet show call I-Vision TV.
For his campaign, Etienne sets up himself as the more liberal of the two. Also going for him is that he had publicly taken issue with the United States Government's failure to control the surveillance of Americans by the National Security Agency (NSA). He was, unlike Wilson, not for the U.S. use of military force in Libya.
Wilson, still, will be a hard opponent to beat. With 22 years of political history under her belt, she is much loved by the community. She has been a School Board member in Miami-Dade, serving in the state senate and Florida House. She started the program, 5000 Role Models of Excellence while a Principal of Skyway Elementary. Wilson also has a history of crushing her opponents, and has an endorsement by President Barak Obama. She has the advantage of having more funding than Etienne, as well.
