Father Jean Marie Vincent Assassination
August 28, 2014 will make two decades since the poor of Haiti lost one of their greatest champions. Father Jean Marie Vincent's murder was considered to be as a result of his affiliation with ousted leader Jean-Bertrand Aristide, and left a huge gap in the lives of the thousands he touched through his programs designed to uplift the poor in literacy and economics.
His death had come as a massive shock as, even though many other religious leaders had been beaten, exiled and imprisoned in the country, none had been killed since the start of the military rule following the coup in 1991. From Washington, Aristide took the news in stride and expressed an optimism that the work he had done would not be undone by the killing of Father Jean Marie Vincent, a man who possibly saved the ex-president's life in 1987, when he threw himself between Aristide and his attackers, sustaining a wound in the head.

Madame max Aldolphe
Francois Duvalier, the 40th President of Haiti, had a number of people who he used during his regime to impose his rules and methods of running his own government. A rule of guns, military power along with personality cult and voodoo, Francois Duvalier was responsible for the death of over 30000 Haitians. This not only struck fear and horror in the hearts of the people of Haiti when he was alive, it is something that Haiti has not recovered from ever since.
One of the significant figures of Francois Duvalier's regime was Madame Max Adolphe. Every leader has a group of deputies under him/her to take care of nationalistic duties. Madame Max Adolphe was one such individual under Duvalier's reign. She was what Duvalier, during his presidency, called his "right hand".

On April 3, 2000, having arrived in the courtyard of Radio Haiti Inter, the station he founded in the early 70's, Jean Léopold Dominique was killed as a result of 4 shots to the chest. The attack, which also claimed the life of a station employee, was carried out before the early morning show Dominique was slated to begin.
Francois Duvalier Reign in Haiti
Francois Duvalier, 40th President of Haiti, began life in Port-au-Prince. Born to a well-to-do family, he earned a medical degree from the University of Haiti. After serving as a political appointee under President Estimé, he ran for the presidency under a populist platform that won support from the Afro-Haitian electorate. He won and began his rule of tyranny, manipulating the Constitution to declare himself "President for Life".
Francois Duvalier tolerated no opposition to his repressive policies. He intimidated his enemies, routinely ordering assassinations, an estimated 30,000 of them. Many educated Haitians fled Haiti, and the island has never recovered its intelligentsia.
Antoine Izmery Assassination
Former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide's presidency has been surrounded in the deaths of thousands Haitians, several of them well-known political figures and activists. Famous assassinations in the country during the 1990s can be classified into two: Aristide's supporters or the former president's critics.
Antoine Izméry was well-known businessman and a strong supporter of Aristide as a pro-democracy activist. He belonged to one of the wealthiest families in Haiti and was a large financier of the former president's campaign in 1990. When Aristide was ousted and exiled by a successful coup d'état in 1991, Izméry remained loyal and formed the Komite Mete men pou Verite Blayi (KOMEVEB), an organization that was aimed at exposing and publicizing the events that transpired during the coup and at bringing back Haiti's democratic form of government under Aristide. Along with this cause came the assassination of his brother, Georges, by the new military regime in power.
