Port-Salut Needs more Development as Tourist Destination

In the South Department of Haiti, along its shoreline, lies the sublime beauty of Port-Salut, a hidden treasure. The town was the birth place of both former President, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, and Prime Minister, Jean-Marie Cherestal.

Although Port-Salut is considered one of the most appealing places on Haiti's tourist map to visit, it has not been developed enough to encourage more tourist dollars to be spent there. The World Tourist Development has largely ignored the potential of Port-Salut to offer more than just its sliver-sand beaches, which can be found anywhere on the island. Rather for eco-tourists to discover the rich variety of its flora- and fauna-proliferated terrain is where the town needs to head in having its unique ecology promoted. The Haitian Diaspora is starting to recognize possibly the most appealing tourist destination in the South Department. Port-Salut's cleanliness and its warm-hearted people residing there add to its attraction.

Moulin Sur Mer Resort

Moulin Sur Mer Resort is a magnificent colonial style beach resort in a large sprawling property located in Montrouis-- one of the best beach tourism destinations in Haiti. The resort is situated by the side of a vast beach along the clear turquoise waters of La Cote des Arcadins. Festival of the Sea in Cap-Haitian, Festival De La Mer 2013

This is the 2nd year that Haiti will host the Festival of the Sea. The ceremony will this year be held at on the boulevard of Cap-Haitien and on the beach of Camp-Louise.

Ms. Dieudonne Luma Etienne who is currently the Director of the Northern Regional Office of the Ministry of Tourism this Wednesday launched the second edition of the Cap-Haitian. Dieudonne Luma was accompanied by other Haitian dignitaries.

The celebrated occasion will take place from 9 to 11 August 2013. The theme for the ceremony will be "Let's keep our beaches clean!"

Abaka Bay, Ile-a-Vache, ranked 57th most beautiful beach in the world

Noted around the world as a top media enterprise, CNN recently published the results of its 'Most Beautiful Beach in the World' survey. Its May 28th edition showed the results of the online survey CNN opened to the public, which asked everyone from the everyday reader to literal beach and travel aficionados to rate the world's 100 most beautiful beaches.

Putting the words of Haiti's Tourism Minister, Stephanie B. Villendrouin in a prophetic light, the survey ranked Abaka Bay, Ile-à-Vache's Indian name, as 57th on its beautiful world beaches list. This is undoubtedly good press for the country, and the Tourism Ministry is already making use of the accolade.

Port-Salut as a Tourist Destination

Port-Salut is the Haitian tourist industry's best-kept secret. Located on the southern-most coastal part of the Tiburon Peninsula, it lies close to the western tip of it. Ironically, though it contains paved routes, very few tourists know of its existence. Beaches that embrace the village are made of white sand, fine and almost sugar-like in texture. Favorite beaches of the Haitian residents living there include Plage Macaya and Kalico.
A famous personage, who was born, raised, and resides there is former Haiti President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Electrical service is not dependable in Port-Salut and the natives retire and arise, according to the sun's setting and rising.
