Clinton Bush Haiti Fund to provide grant to support Hospital Bernard Mevs

Former United States President Bill Clinton announced that a new grant has been made under the Clinton Bush Haiti fund in order to support the Bernard Mevs Hospital in the country. This was done after Clinton and former U.S. Senator Bill Frist, who happens to be a surgeon, visited Haiti to evaluate on the hospital's program.

The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund currently amounts to $442,100, which aims in assisting the U.S.-based non-profit project called Project Medishare and Bernard Mevis to provide medical training and educational programs for Haiti's medical personnel; from doctors, surgeons, nurses, and other staff. This will be able to train about 47 radiologists, pathologists, and lab technicians in the Bernard Mevs Hospital and in other hospitals around the country, utilizing the most advanced tools also provided by the funding.

The Bernard Mevs Hospital has been able to care for more than 60,000 Haitian patient and complete about 150 surgeries during the previous year. It currently has a total of 140 Medishare-trained, doctors, nurses and medical staff. Bernard Mevs is also one of the very few hospitals in Haiti with centers for critical care, trauma, and rehabilitation.
