The completion of the Avezac channel project has been a joint funding effort by the European Union (EU) and the French Development Agency (AFD) to increase the capacity of irrigation canals in Avezac to provide more accessible water to the farmlands located in the area. Fertile cropland will be extended to 2,000 hectares.

The irrigation project is subsumed under the Support to Agriculture Production and Food Security of South agency, which itself is part of the Food Safety Enhancement Program in Haiti, and also an inherent element of MDG. The total cost of the project is 12 million Euros.

Camp-Perrin, a municipality in the Les Cayes Arrondissement is located in Haiti's Sud Department. Around 40,650 people inhabit the place. It lies at 163 kms west of Port-au-Prince.
How Camp-Perrin Got Created

Three Perin brothers who were Frenchmen arrived here during the 18th century. They wanted to study the possibilities of growing coffee and cotton. They also wanted to explore the use of indigo and the dye of Campeche wood in Haiti. The city was thus created in 18th century.

Up the hill they built a camp, and Haut-Camp and Bas-Camp the two district towns came into existence. Perrin is subdivided into three counties namely, the second section - Champlois, the first section - Levy-Mersan and the third section - Tibi-Davezac.

Tourism has been on a substantial descent over the last 20 years. But one series of events, the Fête champêtre, continues to give hope to a struggling industry as tourists, local, from the Diaspora, and international, flock Haiti to witness the countryside festival.

One of the main avenues for entertainment to the 18th century elite, a Fête champêtre (a country feast or pastoral festival) was a type of garden party much loved at court. With pretensions to simplicity, the Fête champêtre was patronized by the well dressed, entertained by musicians hidden in the trees, as they enjoyed the beauty of landscaped park.

Haitian radio is the chief means of media communication on the island. Few have income to buy a TV, and those who have sets are subject to unreliable electricity service. Going online to access news coverage is impossible for all but the rich. Not only is newspaper distribution minimal, but 80% of the population are illiterate. The only information source available to everyone is the radio and radio stations are plentiful in Haiti. Reception is widely accessible in virtually every village on the island. Radios cost little to own and run on batteries.

The Port-au-Prince broadcast radio station, Radio Vision 2000, is undergoing a significant change with the departure of one iconic host and the return of another. After over a decade as an anchorman for the radio station, Valéry Numa has decided to leave his home on the 99.3 FM frequency and take up residence on his own 88.9 station, FM Platinum.

Among his other endeavors are the newsman's hotel, Kickback, and other business holdings in the South Haiti locale, Camp Perrin, from where his radio station will be broadcast. The goal is for FM Platinum to reach 18 southern towns by way of relay through other radio programs, a 'first' as announced by Valery. His last broadcast on the program he is known for, 'Guest of the Day', will be broadcast on Friday, September 2nd, after which the prodigal journalist, Marie-Lucie Bonhomme will return to host the popular show.

Haiti has been gaining favor from many tourists but the current tourism sector state has been playing to its disadvantage. Despite the fact that there are several Hotel, Institution and Tourism Training centers in the country, it's evident that they need to undergo some evolution to keep up with the pace of the dynamic tourism industry.

Two programs, HEAT project which was pioneered by Yele Foundation and the other project under Ministry of Tourism, have been running in collaboration to create an overall positive impact on Haiti's tourism industry through Hospitality, Hotel and institution management. The Hospitality Education and Training project was initiated to offer highly professional training to students in various Hospitality training institutions in Haiti.
