Small decrease in price of gas and kerosene at the pump

The quality of gasoline used in Haitian cars must be very special. While the price of gasoline around the world has plummeted to its lowest level in 12 years, Haitian drivers continue to pay premium cost for gas. Now, the Haitian government has decided to reduce gasoline cost in Haiti by just a fraction. The Minister of commerce Industry (MCI) and finance announced that starting today, January 13, 2016, the price of gasoline has decreased as follows: price of gasoline at the pump to be reduce by 6 gourdes, while the price for kerosene by 8 gourdes.

General Strike Monday and Tuesday to demand decrease in gas price

The next two days are not going to be easy for the Haitian population.

Protesters who have been demanding a reduction in the gas prices have scheduled to go on strike Monday and Tuesday in Haiti.

Many Schools and, businesses mostly in the Haitian capital is expected to be closed during these two days. Expect road blocks such as barricades and burning tire.

Gasoline price decreased in Haiti, but is this low enough?

Following pressure from the unions with a threat of major public strike, the government of Martelly has decided to decrease fuel price.

Following negotiations with several union groups, the Ministry of Economy and Finances has made the following revision in the price of petroleum:

- Gasoline 95 went down in price by 7.5%, from 215 to 210 gourdes (-15 gourdes)

- Diesel fuel down 9.27%, from 177 to 167 gourdes (-15 gourdes)

- Kerosene, down 6.3%, from 171 to 161 (-10 gourdes)
